DME Ltd Trader of the Month - Carole Allen Jewellery

Friday morning, bright and early (well never really early enough for Martyn’s liking!) we set off for Truro. As we drive onto the piazza, the marquee is gently flapping in the breeze (well OK, force 9 gale usually, but I like to be optimistic). We’re welcomed by the organisers Martyn & Paula with the usual friendly greeting “what time do you call this?”

Once we’ve hugged other stall-holders like long-lost friends there then ensues a frantic unpacking of displays and products. There’s usually something someone has left at home like extension leads or tablecloths but thank goodness there’s always some annoying person who’s really well organised and has spares!

The customers then slowly start to arrive. They come in many guises, from those just out for a browse, to those who love the fact that that they can buy really unique items from the person who designed and lovingly made them. These people realise how fortunate they are to live in a part of the country where they have such regular access to beautiful crafts and foods at discount prices. They also like to be able to discuss with the maker different designs, colours and sizes etc. This personal attention is so lacking in the chain store shops where the assistant usually has no interest in where the goods come from or how they are made.
